We believe that everyone with a spine can benefit from chiropractic care, including the smallest members of your family. In addition to general chiropractic care, Dr. Zach at True North Chiropractic and Wellness offers care for children of all ages to encourage generational health and wellness.

Our approach to pediatric chiropractic care is gentle and specific, tailored to each child’s individual needs. Learn more about how we might help your little one heal and thrive.

Why Chiropractic Care?

Your spine is the protection and armor for your nervous system, and the same is true for children. Slips and falls are common as kids grow and explore the world around them, and these minor incidents can create interference in their nervous system that can affect their posture, structure, and development.

Kids are growing and developing more rapidly than adults, which means their bodies are under constant stress. By the time a child reaches age 2, they’ve experienced roughly 2,000 falls, with about 200 considered more significant. When a subluxation goes uncorrected, the nerve interference it creates doesn’t stay isolated. It can affect digestion, immunity, sleep, and the body’s ability to fight off toxins in today’s increasingly challenging environment.

Today’s children also face more environmental and lifestyle stressors than ever before. Between processed foods, increasing screen time, overstimulation, and less time spent outdoors, growing bodies have a lot to adapt to. A healthy nervous system helps children better adapt to the demands of modern life while encouraging healthy growth and development.

Our goal is to help kids grow up as healthy as they possibly can, and help parents understand how to set kids up for optimal health from the very beginning. Whether a patient is 6 hours old or 90 years old, if their spine is subluxated, it needs to be adjusted.

Common Conditions

Chiropractic care has been shown to benefit children of all ages suffering with a variety of complaints, including:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Bedwetting
  • Colic
  • Constipation
  • Digestive issues
  • Ear infections
  • Frequent illness
  • Headaches
  • Torticollis

Gentle Adjustments

A Gonstead practitioner, Dr. Zach takes his time to analyze each child’s spine for subluxations and utilizes extremely low force adjustments, typically using the same pressure you might use to check the ripeness of a tomato.

For infants, this means the adjustment is so gentle that most parents don’t even realize it has happened. For school-aged children, whose joints are more developed, the adjustment looks a little more like what an adult would experience, and you may hear some noise. Either way, the approach is always specific to the child’s age, size, and needs.

Putting Your Family at Ease

Dr. Zach is a dad himself, a father of four young kids, and he puts children and their parents at ease with his friendly, open demeanor. We explain each step of the process, and we have “adjustable” stuffed animals so kiddos can see what an adjustment looks like. We’ll often adjust infants while lying on Mom’s or Dad’s chest.

Beyond the adjustment, Dr. Zach takes time to educate families on the everyday habits that encourage better health, from how to change a diaper in a way that protects the lower spine, to nutrition, screen time, and getting kids outside and moving. He encourages parents to focus on real, nutrient-dense foods, limit heavily processed snacks, and build healthy habits that can help their child grow, focus, regulate mood, and feel their best.

Chiropractic is one piece of the picture. Raising healthy kids is the whole goal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe for infants?

Yes. The pressure used to adjust an infant is comparable to gently pressing into a ripe tomato, nothing like the force used for an adult. Most parents don’t even realize the adjustment has taken place. What they notice is what follows: better sleep, improved digestion, reduced colic, or improved range of motion in the neck.

At what age can a child start chiropractic care?

There is no minimum age. Dr. Zach sees newborns through teenagers. The birth process itself can place stress on an infant’s spine, so having a baby checked early is one of the best things a parent can do for their child’s developing nervous system.

Will my child feel pain during an adjustment?

For infants and young children, the answer is almost always no. The adjustments are very gentle and use minimal force. Older kids may hear a popping sound, which is simply gas releasing from the joint, similar to cracking your knuckles, and is not a sign of pain.

My child seems healthy. Why would they need chiropractic care?

Kids often can’t articulate discomfort the way adults can, and many subluxations produce no obvious symptoms early on. The nervous system controls everything, including digestion, immunity, sleep, and development, so keeping it clear of interference supports your child’s overall health, not just the absence of pain.

Do you offer any parenting guidance along with care?

Absolutely. Dr. Zach regularly teaches parents small but important habits, like how to roll a baby to their side during diaper changes to protect the lower thoracic spine, how to lift a child in and out of a crib safely, and how to position car seat straps correctly. These things matter more than most parents realize.

Does Dr. Zach have special training in pediatric chiropractic?

Yes, he is Webster Certified (a technique focused on pregnancy and the pelvis) and brings years of hands-on experience working with infants and children, in addition to raising four kids of his own. Every adjustment is specific, gentle, and age-appropriate.
